Because the world of Islam is vast and diverse. Most of all, an orientation towards ornament. In Islamic art, ornament carries meaning. Here, the pattern is a code, an encrypted message. How do you read the contents stored in geometric patterns, in the tangle of lines and figures? How does one decode the Islamic ornament? What do these patterns say? How does one orient oneself with the message? |

Theme of the exhibition "Evanescent cherry petals" is 19th century Japanese woodengravings of ukiyo-e movement.The exposition will take place in the Museum of Minsk in Minsk Mazowiecki, 16 Okrzei st., open from 27.03.2009 to 3.05.2009.
It will be possible to acquaint with works of such artists like Utagawa Kunisada, Utagawa Hiroshige or Katsushika Hokusai as well as other remarkable woodengravers. Apart from woodengravings at the exhibition will be presented netsuke collection, 19th century Fudo Myoo household altar and genuine kimono. The exhibition is supported by a catalogue. On the 19th of April 2009 accompanying event is planned - "Day with Japanese calligraphy. |

The rich cultural tradition of Central Asia is enhanced by the heritage of various ethnic groups inhabiting the region. The testimony of secular culture are wonderful cities like Samarkanda, Buchara, Ashhabad and Herat with their unique architecture, fantastic ornaments as well as luxurious textiles and carpets created at a handicraft workshops. The influences of a nomadic tribes are also significant especially the remnants of pre-Islamic beliefs and richness of related to them symbols. The diversity of traditions has it’s reflection also in costumes. |
