ImageThe Polish Society of Oriental Art wants to use its place in public life to protect cultural output and traditions and popularise the material and the non-material heritage of Asian,  African and other non-European cultures.

The PSOA  realises its aims through:

- research and documenting Oriental art, with focus on the history of painting, sculpture, graphics, architecture and urban development, gardens, handicraft, photography, theory of art, as well as contemporary art and audio-visual culture
 
- organizing research and international cooperation on Oriental art, including meetings, conferences and  workshops for curators

- gathering documents on events, workshops and artistic activity

- publishing an academic journal, reports on research, catalogues of Polish collections of Oriental art, as well as a bulletin (printed or on the internet)
 
- working on methods of preserving of Oriental works of art

- curatorship over works of Oriental art in Poland

- documenting and renovating works of Oriental art architecture and monuments of world's cultural heritage, especially in the countries remaining within the PSOA's range of interests

- organizing exhibitions of Oriental works of art

- activities aimed at education and popularising Oriental art and world's cultural heritage

- ensuring close cooperation between art historians, curators, representatives from related fields, but also museum workers and exhibition curators interested in Oriental art

- advisory activity and preparing expert evaluations

- organizing competitions for research papers, curators’ works and students' papers.

Furthermore,  Polish Society of Oriental Art supports research on:

- the art of other non-European cultures (South and Middle America, Australia and Oceania)
- the art of the Christian borderland between Asia and Europe
- the art of national minorities from the East in Poland and Central-Eastern Europe (Armenians, Jews, Karaims and Tatars) .

To realise its statutory aims, the PSOA has created the Department of Oriental Art Studies devoted to research and documenting.
